Steph moved to Napier at the start of 2021, with husband Ants and three children, to take up the role of Napier City Council Chief Executive. Prior to joining local government, Steph's career was as a firefighter, a role that took her around the world.
More recently, Steph coordinated the Covid-19 pandemic response in Victoria (Australia) and also lead the State's response to the devastating 2019 Victorian bushfires. However, in 2020 the call home was strong and a return to Aotearoa planned despite the multiple challenges presented by Covid-19.
Steph is from St Bathans in Central Otago, a place more known for its ghost than its people, but it was Hawke's Bay that was top of mind for livability and family life. After working closely with local government for years, the opportunity presented itself to get stuck in and become part of the Napier City Council team.
Steph is enjoying the opportunities and challenges of civic service and implementing the city’s ambitious plans for infrastructure, growth and city vibrancy.
