Kevin Atkinson - Hasting Boys High School

For the last six years, Kevin has been the Head of Commerce at Hastings Boy High School. He takes a keen interest in local business and integrates this interest in his teaching to the students.

Following on from studying business at University and achieving a BA (Hons), he started his career in the agriculture insurance industry and put the theory he had learnt into practice, developing his understanding of business from there.  He had always wished to be a teacher and took additional studies to qualify in this profession in the UK. Once qualified, he enjoyed several years teaching Business Studies and was promoted to Head of Faculty in Business.

Throughout his studies and working, he had always had a love of travelling and over the years has visited many countries. One of those countries was New Zealand! It quickly became a place that both Kevin and his wife knew they would love to live one day. After immigrating five years ago from the UK, Kevin has since become an NZ resident and loves the lifestyle here.

Kevin has enjoyed making changes to the business department at Hastings Boy High School; introducing new subjects, new technology and new connections with local businesses. Recently he has been heavily involved in the Young Enterprise Scheme and a lot of his students have achieved great success through this.

Kevin is now looking forward to being part of the Chamber of Commerce Business Awards again and being introduced to further great businesses in the Bay.
