If you own a business in Hawke’s Bay and have been affected by Cyclone Gabrielle you can apply for support to help you recover.

The Government is providing $25 million in recovery support to businesses in 7 regions affected by Cyclone Gabrielle and January floods in the North Island.

Farmers and growers can apply for separate support from the Ministry for Primary Industries.

 

What the grants are for:

You can apply for a grant to help you keep operating and position you for a successful recovery.

 

Who can apply:

You must meet the following criteria, including being in one of the seven regions, and how you have been affected.

You can apply if you are self-employed, a sole trader, or an employer of up to 50 full-time equivalent employees (FTE).

 

Location criteria

If your business is primarily located in Hawke's Bay, read on for criteria and the application process through the Hawke's Bay Chamber of Commerce. If your business is based outside of Hawke's Bay where a local State of Emergency was declared and you were affected by Cyclone Gabrielle or January flooding, see below for the relevant regional entity to contact.

You must meet all these criteria:

  • business must be primarily located in Hawke's Bay
  • face significant cashflow issues due to continued challenges with customer access, ability to source stock, supply chain issues, inability to operate as usual due to physical damage to equipment or premises, or delay in insurance assessment and repairs
  • be an otherwise viable business both before and after the flooding
  • not have received any funding from the MPI recovery fund
  • commit to acting in line with employment law and with due regard to employees
  • have fewer than 50 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) employees.

Meeting these criteria is essential to ensure that funding is provided to those who need it most, and to ensure that funds are distributed fairly and effectively. Potential applicants should carefully review the eligibility criteria before applying, to ensure that they meet all requirements and have the best chance of receiving the funding they need.

Prior to beginning your application, we suggest you pull together key information about your business such as name, location, nature of business, number of staff, and also information about the impact the cyclone or flooding has had on your business.

Farmers, growers and whenua Māori owners can apply for support from the Ministry for Primary Industries to get back on their feet. You cannot also apply for a grant from the cyclone and flooding recovery fund.
